In September of 2002, the Pediatric Cancer Care Society (PCCS) was organized to assist parents of children diagnosed with cancer in paying for the astronomical health insurance premiums.

PCCS is a subsidiary division of Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society (RCCS), which was established in 1997 as a non-profit organization sponsoring financial assistance of cancer-stricken patients. They accomplish this by paying the premiums of individual or family health insurance coverage for cancer patients, after they have been diagnosed with the disease.

What makes the PCCS mission so vital is the fact that these young cancer patients are dependents and they cannot attain individual policies, they require the coverage of family policies or a parent/children policy. Pediatric Cancer Care Society resolves the financial and emotional difficulties these families encounter.

The organizational financial power of PCCS, in large part, derives from the fact that those who contribute to PCCS can achieve enormous leverage for their charity dollar. For example, a contribution of about $6,000 (to cover an individual policy, typically inadequate for a child with cancer) or about $15,000 (to cover a family policy) can yield a cancer-stricken patient medical benefits in excess of $1 million a year. Such a degree of advantage is unmatched by virtually any other charitable endeavor.
